One way to TV heaven*
Goodness me, the wastage. What's wrong with Freecycling a good old telly?!
(*As spotted at a recycling centre in Devon. Yes, I do go and take photos at random recycling centres when I'm on holiday; I'm funny like that.)

Probably because they're not digital and people would rather have a new telly than get a set top box.

Yes but the point is that Freecycle keeps things out of landfill, and many people can't afford new tellys so they take what they can get on Freecycle (set top boxes get put on there too). But most people don't know that, or maybe don't care? Sigh.

Sometime it's just down to very bad advice - ie from the Government (although probably not in this case of TV's but related though...)
People are told that LCD flat screens use less power than CRT fat TV's = eco friendly and greener.
So out goes the old TV and in comes the LCD's.
The Government doesn't help when they're encouraging people to scrap old cars to get new...that's not more eco-friendly really. Too many of those "eco-advices" we see out there aren't always correct sadly enough.
(In my case...yes I have a LCD flat screen to replace my fat CRT TV...but the CRT TV went to a mate who had no TV so it's being used instead of being in a dump at least)

It's more environmentally friendly to keep your old car going than buying a new one, as stated by the Green Party no less! :oD
