Now with more water...

rain1.jpg

Note how you can barely tell the difference between the road and the river, which is scarily high behind the wall - it seems to have risen a good few feet...

... On the way down the hill (we were walking the dog, alright!) we bumped into a neighbour who excitedly informed us that all of the shops in Mytholmroyd are closed except for Sainsbury's, where she works, which is "just" open because it's got more steps. We also saw someone bleakly bailing buckets and buckets of water out of their house. Right now I am just glad we live on a hill, and feel really sorry for those who don't.

More later, maybe.

Erk!! Knew it was bad but not THAT bad. Please be careful when walking wee Harryster - otherwise buy him some orange armbands so you can keep him close by in the water. Blimey.

Hi. Can anyone tell me if my house is underwater? I work in Manchester, and could do with knowing if I should hurry home to install sandbags, start bailing, or open a chandlers.

We live at Vale Bower (opposite Elphin Court, the retirement home on Cragg Road). This morning the water was about a foot and a half below our (basement) kitchen window, and rising.

Anyone been out that way recently and seen the water level?

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim

I'm afraid I'm on the other side of Burnley Road to you so I can't help. Just been out again though, and the river has gone down and the centre of Mytholmroyd is now back to normal as far as I can see (ie the road now looks like a road again, not a river). Hope your house is OK!

J

Thanks, I'm reassured that at least it's started to go down.

Some people certainly suffered collateral damage - this morning I saw someone's cat bridge being swept away. Oh, the humanity!

Um, what's a cat bridge? A bridge for cats?! Seriously?

Don't drown, J and C!!

Yes we are all safe and dry, thanks for asking!
