Breaking Virginity
I am very proud of the fact that at the age of 31, I am still a virgin. An IKEA Virgin, that is. Yep, you are right... I've never been to IKEA in my whole life.
This is partly because IKEA furniture always seems to break - I've lost count of the number of times I had to fix my ex's chest of drawers because the plastic runners used to bend out of shape (PLASTIC runners, I ask you! Why?!).
Or, it might have parts missing, as E found out when she brought a 3-legged IKEA bed home. Obviously, a 3-legged bed isn't much use, so she had to drive all the way back again to have a cross word with the man who sold it to her and retrieve the 4th leg. Heavensake.
And there's always those flat pack instructions that look nothing like the actual furniture (it took me and Ce about four hours to put the above 3-then-4-legged bed together, during which time I had to get my drill out, which completely defeated the purpose of a flat pack; you aren't meant to need a drill).
Anyway, today this is all about to change, and I am going to IKEA this afternoon to buy a new desk and chair for the office. It's all C's fault, of course. Basically we need a new desk, and after looking at crap furniture with wheels (what is this obsession with wheels on PC tables?!) that we didn't want, I said that I thought we should get one like the one I am working on right now - i.e. wheel-free and quite nice, as far as PC desks go.
That was when C told me it was from IKEA, and so I gave up.
Ce is convinced that we will buy loads of other things that we don't need, like glasses and cutlery, which we actually have too much of, so I'm a bit scared. At the same time, a wee voice inside me says "C'mon J, it's time to become a grown up."
I will report back. Wish me luck.

Oh. My. God. What a throwback!! The above mentioned bed was purchased in 2002 - I am sure they have improved their packing skills since then.
If not, I will personally deliver a training course in "How To Make A Three Legged Bed a Four Legged Bed". Or, rather "How To Make A PC Table Suitable For a PC".

So, I require a shopping list of what you bought! Please, please let me be right that you have bought things that you did not want!
