That test card is pure evil...alone with that head drilling whine that comes out of the TV and you cannot escape the sound and continues to ring in your ears even after you switch it off....despite the fact that I'm deaf...
Hell I swear I could just hear the sound without hearing aids...pure evil I tell you.
Does Alison beat me on knowledge of useless facts and Old Fart?
Not sure she is as reliable as me.....Mind you costume designing in Suffolk and owning a shop in Brighton are easy to confuse aren't they? !?!?!
So now I HAVE to know who did you mix her up with Ali?

However, got the town wrong again, its Whitstable. (Don't ask me how I mixed that up with Brighton, perhaps both down south, Tipping the Velvet, Brighton scene connections, yes my brain works in strange ways). However, there is a Brighton / BBC / child star connection somewhere, just can't put my finger on it.
However, it was the shop/artist I was thinking of. Remembered the rest correctly. She's a papier mache artist, shop called Total Pap.
Again a daughter of BBC something or other, in this case Peter Firmin (Bagpuss + Basil Brush). Used as a random extra and people wondered what happened to them as adults; which is where the confusion came from with BBC test girl.
Don't know if any of you watched Life on Mars about a detective who went back to the 1970's. In the programme this girl was evil (in my opinion!) and she kept coming out of the TV to talk to this detective - scary!

Test page, on BBC when progs not being aired.
Girl is the daughter of person who put it together, and I now believe she runs a shop in Brighton.

My mistake (mixing her up with someone else). Carole Hersse is now a theatrical costume-maker and lives in Suffolk.
She earned £100 for that test card, and was the daughter of a BBC engineer. Apparently, she's not left handed.

Bagpuss girl, Emily (Firmin)!

And yep, fully certified OAP me.
